EVANGELICALS AND POLITICS

"Evangelical" appears to be the new term for the political movement that used to be called the 'religious right.'   This group overwhelmingly voted for Trump in 2016 and its among his most enthusiastic supporters. In this column a Professor of the Old Testament from a conservative Christian University in Texas expresses his views on the politics.  His article and my posting is NOT a critique of their theology religion in general.  Theology and faith are not the same a political views, or support for candidates and laws. The problem is when one group attempts to enforce it's religious views on others who do not agree.  This is a violation of the establishment clause of the Constitution.  Religion does not excuse authoritarianism.
