U.S. Economic Freedom in Decline
Because of debt problems, economic freedom in the U.S. and much of Europe declined recently. Economic freedom is important in a free society. If the government controls your income, it can control you directly or indirectly. You also have less leeway to invest in projects that can reduce unemployment and create economic opportunities. Economic prosperity and a free society are implicated. An economy in dire economic straits may fall victim to a man on a white horse who promises relief, but delivers authoritarianism as the cost. (e.g. Hitler) See the report from the conservative Heritage Foundation and Wall Street Journal.
