TIH: Aug 28

On Aug. 28, 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech during a massive  civil rights rally at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.  This is one of the greatest speeches in American history. Although I don't agree with him on everything, Dr. King is in my "Hall of Fame" (on this blog)

1955 Emmett Till, an African-American teenager from Chicago, was abducted from his uncle's home in Money, Miss., by two white men after he was accused of whistling at a white woman. He was found murdered three days later.
1968 Police and anti-war demonstrators clashed in the streets of Chicago as the Democratic National Convention nominated Hubert H. Humphrey for president.

  1. Shame that his message of character, not color, is long forgotten by outre creatures such as Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton--now aided and abetted by Obama and Holder.

I note that another pertinent view of MLK's was that a person should be self-sufficient, responsible and independent. Shouldn't let others define his reality.

As for Chicago? Yes, many of the cops "lost it". But being pelted with golf balls and tennis balls with nails in them, and with balloons full of urine and baggies of human excrement can cause some resentment.

I watched the overly-inexperienced National Guard kids show panic in their own dealings with the public. No training, no clue of how to deal with riotous behavior. Very sad.
