The Closing of the Liberal Mind: How Groupthink and Intolerance Define the Left, by Kim E. Holmes, is written by a conservative, but in spite of his leaning he does a fairly objective job in pointing out how intolerance and authoritarianism have come to reflect much of what the American left believes. Holmes does not deny conservative intolerance and makes no excuses for it. Unfortuantely, both the left and right in this country are destroying civil liberties, civil rights and civil discourse. Liberals in the echo chamber need to read this book. Yes, he goes overboard sometimes, but he's basically right.
