Administrative lapses and Arapahoe High Murder
Recent revelations by an Arapahoe High School security guard suggest administrative apathy and a lack of proactivity at Arapahoe High School where a student openly carrying a shotgun entered the school and murdered another student. Among the allegations are that administrators discouraged staff from reporting on troubled students, ignoring warning signs and attempting to stifle criticism. See also this article.

The easiest way to know if someone is a potential assailant is to take seriously any verbal or demonstrated threat of violence toward other people's well-being. And for those problems that fall through the cracks, armed self-defense. Homeland Security videos on active shooter scenarios do more to promote law enforcement than offer real solutions to addressing an immediate threat.
ReplyDelete44: Thanks. The murderer's threat to the debate coach was noted and forwarded to the Sheriff's office. Both the school and law enforcement knew about it. Yet, the student was able to enter the school openly carrying a shotgun through a door that should have been locked. This kind of negligence is inexcusable and an innocent teenage girl paid the price. Yes, when law enforcement fails, as it often does, the armed citizen is the last resort.
