WHITE HOUSE ADMITS TRUMPS STORY RE PHONE CALLS WAS UNTRUE

"Has President Trump told you about the time the head of the Boy Scouts called to say his was the best speech ever delivered to the more than century-old organization? What about when the president of Mexico picked up the telephone to let him know that his tough enforcement efforts at the border were paying off handsomely?
The anecdotes, both of which Mr. Trump told over the last week, were similar in that they appeared to be efforts to showcase broad support for the president when his White House has been mired in turmoil. But they also had another thing in common, the White House conceded on Wednesday: Neither was true.
Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the White House press secretary, confirmed at her daily briefing what the Boy Scouts and the Mexican government had already asserted publicly, which is that neither phone call that Mr. Trump referred to had occurred.

II.  According to the usually accurate non-partisan site [they often point out false statements about the White House, factcheck.org, two phone calls Trump said he got never happened.

"The call from the Boy Scouts
TRUMP: “I got a call from the head of the Boy Scouts saying it was the greatest speech that was ever made to them, and they were very thankful.” — Interview with The Wall Street Journal. Politico published the transcript.  [Trump received calls from persons he identified as 'boy scout leadership', but the President of the Boy Scouts denied making such a call.  In fact he apologize to the organization for Trump's partisan speech]
THE FACTS: He got no such call. His provocative and political speech to the boys at their national jamboree later prompted Boy Scouts President Randall Stephenson and Chief Scout Executive Mike Surbaugh to apologize to members of the scouting community who were offended by Trump’s rhetoric.
White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said the praise Trump described was conveyed in person, not on the phone.
The fake call from Mexico’s president
TRUMP: “Even the president of Mexico called me. They said their southern border, very few people are coming because they know they’re not going to get through our border, which is the ultimate compliment.” — statement on Monday.
THE FACTS: Again, no call. Again, Sanders said this was from a face-to-face conversation. Mexico’s Foreign Relations Department said Pena Nieto remarked to Trump during a meeting at the Group of 20 summit in Germany that deportations of Mexicans from the United States had fallen 31 percent between January and June, compared with 2016. Pena Nieto also said 47 percent fewer Central American migrants had entered Mexico in that period."

And Trump complains that the media spreads 'fake news.'
