CONGRESSIONAL MALE REPUBLICANS AND WOMEN
Like their President, too many male Republican congressional leaders reflect sexist attitudes. There are 5 female Republican senators. None was included in the 13-man working group that came up with the first draft of the current Republican health care plan. I guess women have no unique health issues that need to be addressed. Health care is not the only area. Access to birth control, and, esp. abortion are, issues where Republicans in many states have moved aggressively against women and their rights.
"After the House passed a health care bill that gave states the option to drop pregnancy and maternity care from required insurance coverage, Republican leaders in the Senate seemed poised to answer criticism from women. Instead they courted more, naming a 13-member, all-Republican working group on health care legislation, without a single woman on it — forcing Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the majority leader who approved the panel, on the defensive a few weeks ago.
