HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA!
Have you ever really read our Declaration of Indpepence? Is government necessary? What is the function of government? What is the relationship between the people and the government? What is the basis of the governments power? Given this model/template/paradigm was secession of the southern states justified. I think if you look at the issues, it was not. The main point was that the Confederate states and their voters were part of a functioning, democracy, with a right to vote. Colonists were not. There were no peaceful, lawful remedies for the colonists. There were for the slave states.
