"The homeland security-industrial complex" threat to American freedoms.
The author of "Pay any Price: Greed Power and Endless War" argues that our open society has become a victim of the war on terrorism.
Although I view the Department of Homeland Security as displacing the Department of Defense's constitutional domestic role, how do you address internal threats to public safety? The concept of individual rights means nothing absent people's physical and/or economic security.
44: Thanks for the comment. It is always difficult to find the proper balance between security and individual rights. As you suggest, if enemies bring down our system, or chaos reigns, there will be no rights anyway.
