1942
British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, discussing the recent victory over Rommel at El Alamein, Egypt, said "Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning."[One of my heroes, great speaker and leader]
2009
John Allen Muhammad, mastermind of the 2002 sniper attacks that killed 10 in the Washington, D.C. region, was executed.
My wife and I lived just north of DC when this murdering scumbag and his deranged cohort were shooting up the town. The police and media mislead everyone to be on the lookout for a white delivery truck or van with an older Caucasian male, possibly wearing military or hunting garb. Anything or anyone matching those descriptions were continually harassed up until the killing spree ended. Heck, folks would take cover pumping gas except if it was only a blue sedan with a hole in the trunk sitting nearby. Lesson learned, think for yourself.
ReplyDeleteIn all fairness to the various law enforcement agencies assigned the DC sniper case, it was some good detective work and an observant trucker that finally stopped these cold blooded murderers.
Delete44: Thanks. Sometimes law enforcement gets locked into a particualr theory of the case and misses the boat. Reminds me of the Sharon Tate murders (by the Manson clam) where the police intitially thought the murders were drug related and also failed to initially connect this case with the LaBiance murders which occurred shortly thereafter.
