Good article on Campus Concealed Carry
Too many state college and university Presidents are left-wing authoritarians--disparaging due process, First Amendment and Second Amendment rights. See the FIRE website for gobs of First Amendment examples. It probably wouldn't help, but perhaps, like many other public officials, they should taken an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution. Opposition to licensed concealed carry on state higher-ed campuses is the latest manifestation. Even though rational, balanced consideration of the policy issues provides no ammunition for opponents, too many are focusing on the policy issues, without considering the civil liberties issues. Decisions affecting civil liberties should be made by politically accountable officials, not bureaucrats! The latest idiotic gambit by the Prezzes is covered in the linked article.

Some of the author's assumptions are troubling . . . if I were a licensed and armed carrier who fled the scene of a shooting of the helpless before law enforcement established a presence, I would have long term problems with that choice.
ReplyDeleteI fail to understand Ridgeway’s comment. What is important are the first seconds of an active shooter scenario, before law enforcement has the chance to respond. Those first seconds determine the extent of such an onslaught. That’s where legal CCW provides a safety net. To say that a permit holder changes from Dr. Jekyll to Mr. Hide when they step from the street onto campus is just ludicrous. But this is exactly the argument of anti-carry administrators.
ReplyDeleteThere's no "e" in Ridgway. The writer used the argument that a carrier would only use a gun to protect himself . . . I don't fit that assumption. I don't understand the confusion.
ReplyDeleteUnderstood.
