Isn't it time to abolish the Texas State Board of Education?

Their ideologically motivated shenanigans are an embarrassment. The latest flap over Islam in texts is just the latest in a long series of transparent moves. LINK LINK

  1. Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t our nation’s founding design follow deist thought rather than Christianity? Even though our founders’ faith was of the latter, their governing method was based on an enlightened secularism. Islam is very different as it’s all about theocratic rule. The only simile being the religious right’s enforcement of a biblical perspective well matched to leftist bleeding heart socialism. Both extremes obviously lack in objective analysis. Texas’ textbook decision was apparently a strong counter to the progressive left’s insidious indoctrination in our class rooms. Yesteryear’s anti-establishment Marxist wannabe protester is today’s established Marxist wannabe collaborator in both academia and government.

Thanks for the comment. Yes, there is lots of bias in texts--mostly left-wing. However, the solution is not to try to cancel that out with right-wing bias. If a state-wide body is needed to deal with this bias, it should be a neutral group. Further, the whole idea of a group of elected officials (I think the Board is elected) attempting to tamper with or influence the content of books leaves me feeling uncomfortable. Yes, these are books for children, but shouldn't be leave the job of book writing to the professionals that the job of screening to some neutral body. Of course, no body of people can be totally neutral, but I think we can do better than status quo.

  3. I look at civil society as living by a set of basic rules. In our case those intended by our founders. Moving beyond and/or twisting the rules to fit one's own ideological or religious wanderings is called cheating. And nobody likes to be cheated. It's also very disruptive to practicability and repetitive of misfortune. Such is the curse of progressive thought and actions. Far left socialist wannabes and their snot nosed techno geeks honestly see themselves as being intellectually superior to conservatism. Truth is, most self proclaimed bleeding heart liberals I've met are arrogantly naive to the point of being dangerous to themselves and others.

  4. jtl loaned me Hamilton's curse by Thomas DiLorenzo. Looks like a good read and right down my alley. As you're aware, I'm an independent voter and anti-federalist at heart. I believe in federalism as it was intended, not as it is today. The book discusses the root cause of DC’s perverted federal powers.
